What are NFTs/digital collectibles/crypto art?

Crypto art and NFT collectibles are part of a new, democratising artistic movement that strengthens the connection between those who create and those who appreciate art. The blockchain technology that backs Bitcoin and Ethereum enables the creation of all kinds of digital tokens. NFTs — or non-fungible tokens — are one type of these tokens.

Fungible means interchangeability. If something is fungible, it means all units of that thing are so similar that you can swap them fairly without anyone feeling cheated. Fiat currencies, like the dollar, are fungible. If a group of people threw $20 notes into a bowl and mixed them around before redistributing them, no one would care which $20 note they pulled out because dollars are fungible!

Art, on the other hand, is non-fungible. Its value is hugely subjective. A block of gold or a bitcoin doesn’t need to aesthetically appeal to the buyer. With art, it’s different. Although I think EndangeredNFTs are beautiful, I would have difficulty swapping one for the Mona Lisa! Real estate is another good example of something that is non-fungible.

EndangeredNFTs use blockchain tech to create one-of-a-kind digital collectibles of some of the rarest species of animals on the planet. The security of the Ethereum blockchain means that you can be 100% sure that what you’re buying is an authentic EndangeredNFT and goes towards helping the animals. These tokens represent the owners’ love of our planet’s most endangered species and each one is lovingly created by me on Aseprite.

To buy and sell EndangeredNFTs, you’ll need some ETH (Ethereum) and a Web 3.0 wallet like MetaMask. Most browsers support MetaMask as an extension and it’s super easy to install it. When you’ve set up a wallet and loaded it with some ETH, you can head to OpenSea to support my cause!
